# How to connect your bank account to Perplexity

> On Perplexity Pro, Max, or Enterprise, open Settings, Connectors, add a custom remote connector with the URL https://bankbridge.money/api/mcp, set authentication to OAuth, click Connect, and sign in with your BankBridge email. Then enable BankBridge in a chat and ask about your balances, spending, or subscriptions.

## What Perplexity adds

Most assistants answer a money question from your data alone. Perplexity is built around web search, so it can pair your numbers with current information in one answer: what your insurer charges today versus last year, what a competing phone plan costs, whether a streaming service announced a price change. BankBridge supplies the half Perplexity cannot find on the web, which is what you paid.

## Setup

1. **Link your bank.** Sign up at [bankbridge.money](https://bankbridge.money/login) ($5 per month per bank) and connect checking plus every card you use.
2. **Add the connector.** In Perplexity, open Settings, Connectors, then add a custom connector of type Remote. Paste `https://bankbridge.money/api/mcp` as the server URL and set Authentication to OAuth.
3. **Connect.** Click Connect, sign in with your BankBridge email, and click Allow.

The [Perplexity setup page](https://bankbridge.money/docs/perplexity) has the same steps with copy buttons and the API-key alternative.

## Check that it works

Start a new chat, enable BankBridge, and ask:

> “List my bank accounts and their current balances.”

Perplexity calls `list_accounts`. If you see every bank you linked, the connection is good. If one is missing, the response carries a warning with a reconnect link.

## Questions that use search and your data

- **Price changes.**“List my recurring charges. For each streaming and software subscription, check whether the company announced a price increase this year.” Pair with [catching subscription price increases](https://bankbridge.money/guides/catch-subscription-price-increases-with-an-agent).
- **Bills against current offers.**“What have I paid my mobile carrier each month this year? Find current plans with similar data from the major carriers.”
- **Credit card fit.**“Total my spending by category for the last 12 months, then find which current rewards cards earn the most on that mix.” See [picking a card from your real spending](https://bankbridge.money/guides/pick-a-credit-card-from-your-real-spending-with-ai).
- **Unknown merchants.**“Search my transactions for charges from merchants I might not recognize this month, then look up what each company is.”
- **Plain spending questions.**“How much did I spend on restaurants last month compared to the month before?” No search needed; Perplexity uses `get_spending_summary`.

## What to keep in mind

- **Enable the connector per chat.** If an answer comes back without your numbers, check that BankBridge is switched on for that conversation.
- **Be specific about date ranges.**BankBridge can return up to 24 months. Say “the last 12 months” or “calendar 2025” rather than “recently.”
- **Know what leaves your account.** Read [is it safe to connect your bank to an AI assistant](https://bankbridge.money/guides/is-it-safe-to-connect-your-bank-to-chatgpt-or-claude) for how data moves between your bank, BankBridge, and the assistant.

Ready? [Connect your bank](https://bankbridge.money/login) and add BankBridge to Perplexity in about two minutes.

## FAQ

### Which Perplexity plans support custom connectors?

Custom remote connectors are available on Perplexity Pro, Max, and Enterprise. If you do not see Connectors in Settings, check your plan or your workspace admin's settings.

### Do I need to paste an API key into Perplexity?

No. Choose OAuth as the authentication type and sign in with your BankBridge email when you click Connect. If you prefer a key, choose a custom header instead and paste Authorization: Bearer followed by your bbk_ key from the dashboard.

### Does Perplexity search the web with my transactions?

Perplexity decides when to run a web search based on your question. If you ask it to compare your phone bill to current plans, it will read the bill amount from BankBridge and search for plans. Keep questions specific so it only sends the details it needs to a search.

### Can Perplexity move money through BankBridge?

No. BankBridge's 11 data tools are read-only, and the 12th, connect_bank, only returns a link for you to open. There is no transfer, payment, or trade tool.

### Does BankBridge keep a copy of what Perplexity asks for?

BankBridge does not store balances or transactions. Each tool call fetches live from your bank and returns the result to Perplexity. What Perplexity keeps from the conversation follows Perplexity's own settings.
