Who can add a custom app
Gemini connects to outside services through custom apps: you give it an MCP server URL and it can call that server's tools in chat. Google's requirements, from its custom apps help page (read October 25, 2026):
- You're 18 or over and in the US.
- You're signed in with a personal Google Account. Work and school accounts can't add custom apps yet.
- Keep Activity is on.
- You use Gemini in English.
This is Google's Gemini assistant at gemini.google.com and on your phone, not the Gemini crypto exchange. If you use Gemini in a terminal, follow the Gemini CLI guide instead.
Setup
- Link your bank. Sign up at bankbridge.money ($5 a month per bank) and connect checking plus every card you use.
- Open Connected Apps. On your computer, go to gemini.google.com, click Settings, then Connected Apps. If it isn't there, click Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps.
- Add the custom app. Under Custom apps, add a custom app and enter
https://bankbridge.money/api/mcpas the MCP server URL. Leave Advanced features alone: BankBridge registers Gemini automatically, so there are no credentials to paste. - Sign in. Click Next. A BankBridge page opens: sign in with your BankBridge email and click Allow.
That's the whole setup. You add it once on the web, and it shows up in the Gemini mobile app as well.
Check that it works
Start a chat, type @, choose BankBridge, and ask:
“List my bank accounts and their current balances.”
Gemini calls list_accounts. If every bank you linked is there, you're set. If one is missing, the answer includes a notice with a reconnect link. Picking the app with @ is Google's tip for making sure Gemini uses it for that prompt instead of answering from general knowledge.
Questions to ask
- Where the money went. “How much did I spend on food last month, groceries and eating out separately?” See how much you spend on food a month.
- Subscriptions. “List my recurring charges with the amount and how often each one bills.” Pair with the subscription audit guide.
- One merchant. “Every apple.com/bill charge in the last 12 months across all my cards, with the total.” See seeing all your Apple charges.
- The month as a whole. “Did I bring in more than I spent in September? What were the biggest outflows?”
- Investments. “What do I hold in my brokerage accounts, and what's the gain or loss on each position?”
What Gemini sees
When Gemini calls a BankBridge tool, BankBridge fetches the answer live from your bank and returns it to Gemini. BankBridge doesn't store your balances or transactions. What Gemini keeps from the chat follows your Gemini activity settings, and custom apps need Keep Activity on.
Google's help page also notes that Gemini may share information from your chat with a custom app when it uses one. BankBridge's tools only take filters like dates, amounts, categories and merchant names, so that's what Gemini sends. Disconnecting
In the Gemini web app, go to Settings, Connected Apps, and find BankBridge under Custom apps. Turning it off stops Gemini from using it. Under More details, Disconnect unlinks it from your Google Account, and Remove app takes it off the list entirely. Your bank connections in BankBridge stay as they are, so Claude, ChatGPT or any other assistant you've added keeps working.
If you can't add custom apps
With a work Google Account, or outside the US, the Custom apps section won't be there. The same BankBridge account works in other assistants:
- Gemini CLI, if you're comfortable in a terminal. It uses the same Gemini models.
- Claude or ChatGPT, in the browser or on your phone.
Ready? Connect your bank and add BankBridge to Gemini in about two minutes. It costs $5 a month or $50 a year per connected bank.
